Everything You Need to Know About CBD Oil in Indiana

If you have never tried CBD oil and you live in Indiana, you probably have a lot of questions. You may be wondering:

• Epilepsy

It has even been known to help with Alzheimer's disease. A lot of people rely on CBD to help manage various types of pain instead of choosing to take opioid painkillers. It has been shown to work remarkably well and carries a lot of promise for even more uses in the near future as more research is done. 

Is CBD oil legal in Indiana? 

If you live in Indiana and you want to try CBD oil, it makes sense that you might be concerned about its legality.

But you can stop worrying.

As of March 2018, CBD that has been derived from the hemp plant is legal. Farmers were actually allowed to begin growing hemp for research purposes in Indiana in 2014 under the Industrial Hemp Act. After the 2018 Farm Bill was passed, regulations were drafted to allow hemp growers in Indiana to get licensed and operate commercially. 

Please note that even though hemp-derived CBD that contains less than 0.3% THC is legal in Indiana, the state does not have a medical cannabis program. The recreational use of cannabis with 0.3% or more delta-9 THC in the state is illegal at all ages. It is also illegal to purchase or possess CBD that has been derived from the cannabis plant (versus CBD from industrial hemp).

Indiana Guidelines for CBD Vendors 

Companies that sell CBD in Indiana have to adhere to strict guidelines. In addition to containing less than 0.3% CBD by weight, all cannabidiol must also be batch tested by an independent testing lab. A bottle of CBD oil must have packaging or a QR code that states: 

• The product's name
• The name of the manufacturer
• The oil's expiration date
• A list of ingredients
• The total size of the batch
• The batch number and date
• The total quantity of cannabis extract 
• A scannable link that certifies the product contains 0.3% THC or less. 
• A statement that confirms the same. 

What types of CBD oil can you buy in Indiana? 

The legalization of CBD in Indiana has led to a growing market for these products, which comes as no surprise. As the market has grown, so has the demand for various types of CBD products. Most people are familiar with CBD oil in tincture form, but it can also be purchased as: 

• A cream or lotion
• An edible (CBD gummies are WILDLY popular)
• A pill or capsule
• An oil for vaping

But once you decide which delivery method appeals to you, there are even more decisions to make. There are three types of CBD. Let's take a closer look at them individually. 

Full Spectrum CBD

Full spectrum CBD oil contains only a trace amount of CBD— less than 0.3%, which puts it well within Indiana's laws. Full spectrum CBD can also contain trace amounts of other cannabinoids too, such as CBC, CBG and CBN. Terpenes, lipids and other molecules that were present in the hemp plant are also included in full spectrum products. 

The combination of all the above components is what gives full spectrum CBD its “entourage effect.” This is why a lot of people prefer this type of CBD, since they are able to receive the full benefits of the hemp plant. For many, it produces the best results.  

Broad Spectrum CBD

Broad spectrum CBD is very similar to full spectrum products. The main difference is that the THC has been removed entirely. This is beneficial for people who may not want to consume THC at all. Some people cannot consume it because of their jobs or because they do not like the way it makes them feel. Either way, broad spectrum CBD offers them the ability to use CBD oil and still experience the benefits of the “entourage effect.” 

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate products only contain CBD. Nothing else. They do not have any terpenes, lipids or any other cannabinoids. Products made from CBD isolate are good for people who do not want any THC in their products whatsoever and who may be looking for a more simplified version with fewer ingredients. CBD isolates tend to taste a lot better because hemp terpenes (what give cannabis its signature taste and smell) are absent. Usually, CBD isolate products are cheaper than either full spectrum or broad spectrum CBD. 

Where can you buy CBD in Indiana? 

There are several places where you can buy CBD in Indiana. But that does not mean every retailer is a reputable one. 

For example, Amazon has become a household name. It makes sense that if you were interested in buying CBD oil, you might check there to see if you can find a great deal. 

But you want to use a lot of caution before you make a purchase. Not everything on Amazon is what it seems, and people have been known to buy inferior products through their online store. 

It's best to opt for a merchant that you know you can trust. Here are a few pieces of advice: 

• Always check the ingredients to make sure it meets the THC laws for Indiana.

• Try to avoid fillers like artificial preservatives as much as possible, too. 

• Read reviews to make sure you are getting what you pay for. 

• Only buy reputable brands that have been lab tested and certified.
