The Humble Flower Co line of CBD topicals exudes sophistication and luxury, with bottles and jars that look like they belong in a high-end spa. Yep, this brand has the high-end look and feel nailed. Their products aren’t cheap, but there are a lot of certified-organic ingredients in their formulations (you get what you pay for). HFC hits marks for quality, and they do perform extensive testing on their full spectrum CBD oil. However, we’re a bit irked by another brand claiming ‘all-natural’ but not going all the way.
Humble Flower Co is a women-owned, women-run company based in Los Angeles. Founded by two best friends passionate about the natural benefits of CBD, they set out to make spa-quality topicals that combine CBD oil with other beneficial botanicals like essential oils. They call their packaging elegant and discreet, and we agree. Plus, the brand gets bonus points for their recyclable packaging.
Hemp Flower Co offers four full spectrum CBD topicals, all priced at $50. Although we don’t know their extraction method, they have a third-party CoA posted for their batch CBD oil with all the tested contaminants we look for, including residual solvents. Therefore, we are happy to award the Quality Badge.
The Safety Badge is a no-go, but HFC is relatively close. The CoA performed on their CBD oil has everything we need to see. If they post cannabinoid profiles for each SKU, they’ll easily earn an additional badge from us.
First up in the catalog is a CBD body and face oil. We’re impressed with the ingredients that are all certified organic with the exception of the vitamin E. Organic lavender and ylang ylang essential oils make it an excellent choice for massage. Next is a 200 mg CBD balm also with impeccable ingredient choices like organic olive oil and organic beeswax.
Then, there’s the CBD lotion. It’s hydrating. It’s luxurious. It’s also got phenoxyethanol in its formula. Phenoxyethanol is a synthetic preservative and known irritant that’s restricted in cosmetics in Japan. It’s a dirty ingredient we’ll call out every time.
Honestly, phenoxyethanol is in a lot of CBD topicals. In this case, we’re not insanely bothered by the fact that it’s there (not that we approve), but what does bother us is Hemp Flower Co’s statements that lead consumers to believe they would never dare to use ingredients like this. Statements like:
The topical use of CBD for eczema and other skin issues, pain, inflammation, and more is gaining steam as more and more consumers discover the power of the hemp plant. And since skin is the body’s biggest organ, it’s paramount that whatever we put on our skin has pure ingredients.
That said, there are many CBD vendors out there who do use synthetic ingredients but are transparent and honest, not making contradictory claims. We suggest HFC get rid of the phenoxyethanol (after all, the rest of their ingredients are clean). If they can’t, change the statements about all-natural ingredients.
Bottom Line – Humble Flower Co has a sophisticated, spa-like line of CBD topicals made with full spectrum CBD oil and quality ingredients. We just wish they’d abandon one synthetic ingredient to fulfill their ‘all-natural’ claims.
