Australia-based Sativa seems to provide a diverse line of exceptionally-sourced all-natural and organic CBD oil-infused skincare products. The number of badges we’ve awarded here may not necessarily reflect the quality of the product, we believe, as it seems the company is a true believer in its sustainable and all-natural ethos. We’d simply like to see the receipts when it comes to test results for the quality and purity of their cannabidiol and wouldn’t mind reading a bit more about their preferred CBD extraction process.
This may be a case where numbers don’t exactly tell the whole story.
Though Sativa has received only two badges from us, it does seem that the company offers a quality alternative for anyone seeking a more natural (and CBD-based) skincare routine.
Sativa’s founder, Paul Benhaim, has a long history promoting the benefits of hemp, going all the way back to 1998, when he helped develop a healthy snack bar baked with the plant, which was a big seller in Europe. In 2014, he turned his attentions from hemp-based food to CBD oil, and two years later, he began mixing that CBD oil into skincare products, in a line that became Sativa.
Benhaim—and the company—have a writ large dedication to organic, all-natural, and environmentally-friendly products and practices, with a venerable market basket of exotic plants doing all the heavy lifting in their range of skincare items, including cleansers, serums, moisturizers, a line of deodorants, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, and lip balm.
Aside from CBD oil, key ingredients include old favorites like aloe vera and rosehip oil, as well as a range of plants sourced from the Amazon and Australian Outback. True to its word, nothing un-organic or unnaturally derived makes an appearance in Sativa’s ingredients lists – an impressive feat for any skincare company. (The one exception, as Sativa continues to point out across the site, is its CBD lip balm. Indeed, a number of lab-developed preservatives, emulsifiers, and thickening agents appear in that particular product description).
Sativa alludes to a mysterious “proprietary non-toxic cellular extraction process” for retrieving the cannabidiol—and other cellular components—from their bevy of natural produce, and without much further explanation, we just can’t award our quality badge. Test results for CBD oil clarity and purity are also missing from the site, though we do get a video with a lot of attractive people in white lab coats blotting different substances on a strip of sterile gauze, with minimal explanation.
Still, Sativa says its products are not only all-natural but cruelty-free, with the company declining to work with any suppliers that animal-test their ingredients. Products are also vegan-friendly, with Sativa also declining to use any “stem cell” derived ingredients (where bits of human bone or fat are harvested for cells to test on, which is, apparently, a growing trend in the skincare industry).
Products range from about $9 for the non-organic CBD lip balm to $55 for the company’s cannabidiol serum and CBD moisturizer, though most stay between the $10-$30 range.
Bottom Line – We applaud Sativa’s dedication to all-natural, organic, and sustainable products and practices, which is widely apparent across its website. We tend to believe that their CBD skincare line is as high-quality as the company purports, but we’d like to see more CBD quality test results and information on their cannabidiol extraction method before confirming those assumptions through the awarding of our safety and quality badges.

I just started using this product and I love it. I am a hairdresser and have been exposed to lots of skin products. I think this one is a winner.
